Children's Court Judge Plans To Include All Juvenile Cases

About a year and half ago, Children's Court Judge Geraldine Rivera got tired of seeing youths who couldn't remember what crime they had committed because they were waiting up to nine months to be sentenced.

"They would turn to their attorney and say, 'Is that the Honda I stole or was that the Suburban? Or, the time I left home or I shoplifted at Macy's?' '' Rivera said.

But a pilot program Rivera is using, called "Differentiated Case Management," moves kids through the justice system in about half the usual time, according to data collected since it began in July 1999. …
