Bringing Art to School Means Supplying About 200 Volunteers.(Career Marketplace)

Some 18,000 New Mexico school kids will have the opportunity to study art this year thanks to the work of Sara Otto-Diniz of Albuquerque and her nonprofit organization, Art in the School Inc.

Otto-Diniz, 52, founded the group in 1985 to fill what she considered a void in her daughter's education. That was back when Cecilia, then 7, attended Albuquerque's Zuni Elementary School and when, according to Otto-Diniz, "I discovered that she would never see an art teacher when she was in elementary school."

Art in the School offers several art curricula to teachers and parent volunteers. For example, a coming workshop will focus on "Bridge Design from Three Perspectives." It's part of Art in the School's "Art in Science" theme this year. …
