I never read introductions to books before I read the books themselves. I don't want anything to influence my opinion of a book, even if it's background on the writer.

And I take great care about being judicious about opining on a work when I know nothing about the author, especially a poetry book. I am not a poetry connoisseur.

I do, however, consider myself a budding connoisseur of sorts of the Chicano experience and am happy to read anything that speaks from that heritage.

And I loved "Selected Poetry," a collection by Cecilio Garcia-Camarillo of Albuquerque.
