Christmas Eve's luminaria bus tour map for Albuquerque came out. I closed my eyes, made a brief heaven-ward plea, and looked. Sure enough, my street is on the tour route. Again.

"Let's not put luminarias out this year," my wife proposed. We both knew that wouldn't happen. It's a satisfying temptation, a bit of sociopathology like mowing down the ubiquitous traffic barriers in your hypothetical Sherman tank. Everyone wants to do it and nobody does it.

Why do they choose my street? I wonder every year. It's pretty enough, but nothing special. It does not have those graceful elms that in a span of 50 years have built a canopy over Laguna Boulevard. …
