Ex-Teacher Faces New Drug Charges.

Four months after a jury acquitted her of heroin trafficking in a school zone, former Espanola Middle School substitute teacher Yvette Martinez now faces two more heroin-trafficking charges.

But the charges are not based on new evidence and stem from claims made at Martinez's trial by a former heroin-shooting informant now in jail on his own drug charges, said Martinez's defense attorney, Sheri Raphaelson.

"It's totally slimy," Raphaelson said about the new charges. "(Martinez) is trying very hard to put this behind her and move on with her life and she can't because of these charges."

Martinez pleaded innocent to the new charges Friday before state District Judge Stephen Pfeffer, the same judge who presided over her jury trial in August. …
