State's Delegation Pleased With Session.

WASHINGTON Some critics called it a "do-nothing" Congress, but New Mexico's five representatives in Washington said the recently adjourned session did plenty for the state this year.

Delegation members said accomplishments ranged from buying the expansive Baca Ranch in northern New Mexico to paving the way for a laser research program at Kirtland Air Force Base.

"It was a very good session for New Mexico," said Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M.

But some initiatives the delegation supported, such as strengthened pipeline safety and prescription drug benefits for seniors, died and will have to wait.

Almost all members of New Mexico's delegation said highlights of the 106th Congress included the government's purchase of what had been the private 95,000-acre Baca Ranch and a $661 million compensation package for Cerro Grande Fire victims. …
