Adams Scores 24 In Tussle with Temple


Sophomore post Jordan Adams scored 24 points, and senior post Miranda Sanchez had 23 as the University of New Mexico ran by Temple 78-59 Friday night in the second game of the Clubhouse Inn-vitational before 6,691 fans at the Pit.

In the first game, Western Illinois got past Boise State in the final minutes, 66-59, to set up tonight's championship game between the Lobos (7-4) and the Westerwinds (5-5).

The Lobos took advantage of a huge free-throw discrepancy, hitting 27 of 34 while the Owls (5-2) made 9 of 11.

That discrepancy led to two technical fouls on the Owls, one from first-year coach and two-time Olympic gold medal winner Dawn Staley and a second from guard Natalia Isaac.

There also was some bad blood in the first half when Temple's Stacey Smalls went down. Temple assistant coach Ervin Monier started pointing at the Lobos bench, seemingly suggesting Smalls had been intentionally injured. …
