Whisenant Exasperated With a Lack of Effort

Las Vegas used big runs early in the second and third quarters to pull away from the New Mexico Slam on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

And, with leading scorer Andy Panko suffering through his worst shooting night of the young International Basketball League season, New Mexico didn't have the firepower to trade baskets with the Bandits, losing 105-84. The last time the Slam played at the Convention Center, they scored a league-record 137 points.

"I was embarrassed," said Slam coach John Whisenant. "There was a total lack of effort."

New Mexico did show some early spark, and again toward the end of the second quarter, but that was end of the Slam highlights. …
