Pueblos To Welcome Solstice with Dancing.

Early Thursday, the winter solstice marked the start of the solar year.

Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, has been celebrated in cultures the world over. The start of the solar year is a celebration of light and the rebirth of the sun as the days start to lengthen.

And to observe the arrival of winter, traditional Native American dances, demonstrations and a storyteller will highlight a Winter Welcome celebration Saturday at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, 2401 12th NW.

The events are free to the public. There is an admission charge, however, for guests who intend to tour the museum.
