Lots To Hold Factory-Built Residences.

A developer is planning to put up to 300 lower-cost factory-built homes near Unser and Northern boulevards in Rio Rancho over the next few years.

"Everything in this culture is manufactured, and housing is one area which is lagging behind and is inefficient," said Kenny Hinkes, division president of 21 Housing Corp., a division of Centex Corp.

Hinkes said building many homes in a factory rather than bringing workers and materials to a site to build them one at time saves money.

Another Centex division, Cavco, will build the homes at its Phoenix plant and bring them to Rio Rancho. The homes will cost about $45,000 to about $75,000, depending on their size and market conditions, Hinkes said. …
