Music reviewer picks top 10 best CDs of a forgettable year

Well, here we are. Ten days from now it will be 2001. Another year gone. Another couple hundred CDs have passed through my hands. So I will try to pare those discs down to a Top 10. These discs are the best I heard all year.

What makes a CD memorable enough to make a Top 10 list? Every reviewer will tell you something different. Think about your own Top 10 and what would make you name it your favorite. Is it a certain song, a certain guitar riff, a feeling you get while listening to it?

That's pretty much all there is to this inexact science.

Overall, this was a lackluster year musically. Unless you're a great fan of boy bands and pop bubblegum princesses, it was not pretty. The weird thing is, that those two pinnacles of the pop charts seemed to affect the whole climate of pop music, making it all kind of mediocre.

These were some of the discs I thought were exceptional, the furthest thing from mediocrity I found in 2000. …
