Widow Alleges Insulin Overdose

The widow of a Santa Fe man who died at St. Vincent Hospital last year is suing the hospital over his death and alleging he received a dose of insulin six times the required amount.

The medical malpractice and wrongful death lawsuit filed by Mary Olguin alleges that hospital nursing staff repeatedly failed to carry out doctors' orders and at one point gave her ailing husband, John Olguin, 59, an insulin overdose. Her lawsuit also names two physicians as defendants.

Eight days before he died Aug. 16, 1999, an emergency room nurse allegedly gave John Olguin six times the amount of insulin that a doctor had ordered, according to the lawsuit filed Dec. …
