Owner Agrees to Sale, Euthanization of Starving Horses.

A former horse trainer from Dixon, convicted of animal cruelty for not feeding her starving horses, agreed Thursday to allow the auction or euthanization of four surviving horses.

Two of the horses will be put down because they can't walk and have been pumped full of painkillers, while the remaining two horses will be auctioned, probably for only about $200 each because of their poor condition, said New Mexico Livestock Board inspector Donald Maestas.

Two other horses died and a third was euthanized during the course of the 3-year-old case, Maestas said.

"They just hadn't been fed. They were in bad shape," he said. …
