BIA Chief Takes Job At Washington Law Firm.

WASHINGTON Kevin Gover said Thursday he is leaving his job as assistant secretary of the Interior and director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs to practice law with a Washington, D.C., firm.

Gover, a longtime Corrales resident appointed by President Clinton to head the BIA three years ago, said he has accepted a job practicing Indian law with the Steptoe and Johnson firm.

He said he will represent tribes before Congress and federal executive branch agencies, with an emphasis on tribal economic development. Gover said he will begin his new job next month.

Gover said he had always planned to return to private legal practice at the end of Clinton's term. …
