Dairy Judging Team Boon for NMSU.(New Mexico)

New Mexico's rising influence in the dairy business is reaching into New Mexico State University, where movements are afoot to establish the school's first dairy judging team in more than 40 years.

To city dwellers, this might not sound like a big deal.

But spokesmen for agricultural interests at NMSU say a dairy judging team validates New Mexico's standing in the dairy industry and could tip the scales for students undecided about where to attend college.

A dairy judging team is a big plus, they said.

"There are a lot of students in New Mexico, especially kids who have been in FFA and 4-H, who have a strong interest in dairy judging contests," said Mike Looper, a dairy specialist at NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service. …
