* Three new offerings continue tradition of vivid photos, crisp prose

For more than 100 years, National Geographic Society has brought the outside world home to people all across the land, doing so in vivid, gripping photos and crisp, precise prose.

A trio of coffee table books released this year continues that tradition.

The "National Geographic Expeditions Atlas," "Voices from the Summit" and "Heart of a Nation," focus on the natural world and our place in it.

Each one takes a different tack in the approach to the subject matter.

"Expeditions Atlas" is a history of the various expeditions the Society has sponsored, complete with photos and maps and timelines for which the magazine has become famous. Occasionally, the writing pats the Society on the back too much, but the accomplishments cannot be ignored. …
