Local Shops Offer Procrastinating Shoppers Variety of Unique Gifts.

Retail holiday sales may be down, bringing bad news to merchants, but to last-minute shoppers it means there still are some great bargains out there.

A quick survey of some local merchants may give the last-minute shopper in all of us a burst of creativity.

Nestled along Corrales Road and in the town of Bernalillo are dozens of shops where one can find unique gifts that won't break the piggy bank.

Starting in Corrales, along the main drag, is the Frontier Mart. This is the place to stop to pick up New Mexican gourmet gift baskets and other locally produced items for faraway or nearby friends who crave our state's spicy offerings.

Next door is The Bunkhouse, a replica of an old-fashioned general store with shelves full of antique tins and canisters. Customers can buy gifts ranging from handmade furniture to night lights, baskets, bird houses, items from local crafts people and Native American folk art. …
