Man Enters Guilty Plea In Battery.

A Rio Rancho man, accused of beating Rio Rancho school board member Joel Sherman, pleaded guilty to an aggravated battery charge Wednesday.

George Haney Sr., 54, and Courtney Haney, 21, each were charged in April with aggravated battery, aggravated burglary and other charges after allegedly breaking into a Rio Rancho residence and beating Sherman, who was with Haney Sr.'s wife at the time.

Haney Sr. entered his plea during a Wednesday court hearing in Sandoval County before 13th District Judge Kenneth G. Brown.

Haney Sr.'s sentencing has not been set, but he could face anywhere from probation up to a three-year prison sentence, Assistant District Attorney David Waymire said Wednesday. …
