Each Christmas for the past five years, North 14 Diner owners Gary and Susan Looze have collected toys for needy children in the East Mountains area, then held a gift-wrapping and sing-along party.

Gary Looze said that the tradition sprang from his boyhood memories of his father being injured, when his family feared they would not have Christmas. His father's colleagues collected money and made sure the family was able to celebrate the holiday.

This year, with the help of the community, the Loozes collected and purchased 285 gifts. …
