* Moriarty grapples with flu along with tough opponents at tourney

Hit by a team-wide flu bug, Moriarty High was forced to settle for fourth place at last weekend's Manzano Invitational wrestling tournament in Albuquerque.

With two weight classes unfilled and several team members wrestling at less than full strength because of illness, the AAAA Pintos scored a respectable 126 points against mostly Class AAAAA competition.

Manzano, a AAAAA school, finished sixth in the meet, which is generally considered one of the strongest early-season tournaments in the city. Rio Grande and West Mesa, two of the favorites for the AAAAA state title, finished first and second, respectively.

"I had 50 kids at practice on Monday of last week," said Moriarty head coach Joey Gonzales. …
