Charter School Weighs Year-Two Enrollment.(Schools)

With its first year of operation nearly half over, the Governing Council of the East Mountain High School is setting its sights on its second school year.

At their regular meeting Dec. 4, councilors discussed an enrollment plan, focusing on the number of students they will allow to enroll as freshmen next year.

The charter high school in Sandia Park has 103 students. It planned to allow up to 120 students to enroll this year with the expectation that its student population would decline through attrition. By its fourth year, the school can have no more than 400 students.

"We've got a few people on a waiting list that have yet to be accepted, and throughout the year our enrollment has been between 109 to 103 students," principal Steve Kelley said in a phone interview Dec. …
