District Wants Out, Superintendent Says

The industrial arts department at Moriarty Middle School has a soda vending machine that helps supplement the department's budget. The cash put into the machine helps buy materials for student projects.

But the machine hasn't been much help lately.

Ken Chancellor, a teacher in the department responsible for the machine last year, said the soda machine generated about $1,000 a month last year.

In the last three months, Chancellor said, he has been told the machine has generated $57.

Chancellor blames an exclusive contract the Moriarty school district signed earlier this year with Pepsi-Cola. …
