DA Appoints Staffers To Taos Inquiry Panel.

TAOS First Judicial District Attorney Henry Valdez has named two staff members to head one-half of a pending citizen-petitioned grand jury investigation of Taos County commissioners and government.

The preliminary investigation could begin early next month, Valdez said.

Barbara Romo, who will join his Santa Fe office next month as deputy district attorney, and Amy Lopez, an assistant district attorney, will be assigned as special assistant attorneys general to oversee the first portion of the investigation. That portion covers alleged violations of the state Subdivision Act. The remainder will deal with wide-ranging accusations of governmental misconduct in Taos County, such as alleged financial irregularities and mismanagement of the county jail. …
