Espanola Man Found Guilty of Minor Charges

After deliberating for about 12 hours over two days, a jury acquitted Joe E. Martinez Jr. of two murder charges Monday that stemmed from a pair of Christmas Day shootings last year in Chimayo.

Martinez, 27, of Espanola, hugged his 4-year-old daughter, his father and other family members after being acquitted of two counts of first-degree felony murder and charges of kidnapping and aggravated battery with a firearm. The jury also acquitted him of two conspiracy charges after previously splitting 11-1 for guilty verdicts on those counts.
