Both Sides Say They Score With Report on Ballpark.

Consultants Estimate Cost at $30 Million

Several city councilors said Monday that a new report by a team of consultants confirms their suspicion: Building a new ballpark Downtown would be too expensive.

"From what I'm hearing, it just makes more sense to revitalize the Dukes' (old) stadium than to build a new one," Council President Brad Winter said Monday after hearing from the consultants.

But Mayor Jim Baca said the new report offers evidence to support his view that Downtown Albuquerque is the best home for a new Triple-A baseball team.

"I think if anything, it confirms that we were right that trying to renovate the old one would cost almost as much as building a new one," Baca said. …
