Mozart on tap for Christmas Eve concert.(Arts & Culture)

Japanese pianist Rieko Aizawa will appear with Musica de Camara Orchestra in the group's 19th annual Christmas Eve concert at 5 p.m. Dec. 24 in St. Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe's Museum of Fine Arts.

The concert, "A Mozart Christmas Eve," will include the Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio, Symphony No. 40 in G minor and Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. The orchestra will be conducted by William Mullen.

Aizawa, 25, began piano lessons at age 5. In 1986 she was awarded First Prize in her division in the 40th All-Japan Student Music Competition, and in 1987 made her recital debut at the YMCA in Tokyo.

Since then, Aizawa has performed in solo and orchestral engagements throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, playing with the Calgary Philharmonic and the Curtis Chamber Orchestra and participating in various festivals. …
