Alan Ayckbourn's "The Norman Conquests" follows six characters through three different locations in three plays that take place simultaneously but are, of course, performed separately. Did you follow that? Britain's most prolific playwright, Ayckbourn is wildly inventive and wickedly clever in this trilogy of farces that provide different perspectives on the same events. "The Norman Conquests" is as complex as a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle and a lot more fun. Judging by the opening night of "Table Manners" at the Vortex Theatre, the talented cast does justice to the complex and challenging material.

The plays are set on a 14-foot square platform with audience close at hand on all four sides. …
