6,521 See Scorps Slip Past Lubbock

The penalty killers for the New Mexico Scorpions were, well, killers.

Turning offensive on what should be a defensive shift, the Scorpions scored short-handed three times and added an even-strength goal to hand Lubbock a 4-3 defeat Saturday night before a season-high 6,521 fans at Tingley Coliseum.

New Mexico even scored twice on the same penalty, with Travis Van Tighem behind the glass with an interference call. Steve Zoryk teamed with Artem Rybin midway through the second period. Seventeen seconds later, Peter Ambroziak poked the puck free at the blue line and outraced the defense for a breakaway score to give the Scorpions a short-lived 3-1 lead. …
