The most bipartisan moment has already passed for President-elect George W. Bush. It came following the concession speech by Vice President Al Gore and the Bush speech last Wednesday night, the day after the U.S. Supreme Court wrote an end to the uncertainty about the Florida vote. Later in the week, as talk swirled about possible Democrats in a Bush Cabinet, the mind sets were probably more in divergent mode.

Elements in the Democratic Party are setting their sights on the Bush presidency, priming their plans to make Bush a one-term president. The right wing of his own party is setting its sights on the Bush presidency as well, priming its plans to turn the country to the right. …
