Off-Roaders Say It's Clean Fun.

JEMEZ MOUNTAINS When the group standing outside the Jemez Ranger District office got the word that snow plows were at work on the roads up ahead, they were not happy.

"Oh, darn it," one man said.

The group included more than a dozen people from the New Mexico 4-Wheelers out for their annual Christmas tree run.

Icy roads and thick snow were part of the attraction.

"Getting there is half the fun," said club member Don Tyler of Rio Rancho.

But he said the event was mostly about going out with friends for "nice, family-oriented, clean fun."

On this recent Saturday, Tyler was among several families who spent the day driving into the Jemez Mountains, cutting Christmas trees, picnicking and playing in the snow. …
