Lawsuits Over Treasure Hunt To Be Dropped.

LAS CRUCES Terry Delonas' hard-fought effort to find the legendary treasure of Victorio Peak on White Sands Missile Range is over.

Delonas said he has agreed to a settlement with the U.S. Army in which both sides drop lawsuits against one another.

The settlement signed in mid-November bars Delonas and his associates from "attempting to regain access" to the range, either through the courts or the Legislature, to search for the treasure. If they do, the Army will refile claims that Delonas' treasure-hunting group owes the government more than $700,000.

The Army halted the 4-year-long excavation of Victorio Peak in 1996, but Delonas had sought to regain access to the site through a lawsuit in the Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D. …
