The Santa Fe Playhouse production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" may not rise to the level of George C. Scott's classic film version, but it's the only game in town.

The English-speaking world, at least the Mother Country and its kin, have turned to "A Christmas Carol" for 157 years now for holiday inspiration.

Directors Janis Bonser and Clara Soister brought this latest Santa Fe version to life in a time of national turmoil, at least for those who kept their cable bills paid and happened to tune in to any of the 24-hour news channels in the last month. …
