Suspect Allegedly Tried To Get Money From Cerro Grande Fund

ALBUQUERQUE Shelley Wallace lost her home and a car in the Cerro Grande Fire in May and had to have a veterinarian euthanize a horse because of smoke inhalation.

At least, that's what the woman told the federal government when she asked to be reimbursed more than $300,000 for her losses, court records say.

But federal investigators say Shelley Wallace died in 1983 and that she never owned or lived in the residence the woman was claiming. The vet said he never euthanized a horse for her. And a junkyard employee denied she salvaged her car, as she claimed.

Investigators with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, allege in court documents that the woman who claimed to be Wallace is Pamela L. …
