It's on every girl and boy's gift list to Santa Claus a bicycle, that wondrous wheeled invention that is often a child's first taste of wind-in-the-face freedom.

For some of the children who are served by Carrie Tingley Hospital, a bike is even more than that. It is a rare opportunity to move about uninhibited, even if they can't walk without assistance.

These are not regular bikes, said Elizabeth Madden, director of special events for the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. These children require special three-wheeled Rifton tricycles that are custom ordered with adaptive features according to the size and needs of the individual child. …
