Sometime in the four days before the general election, someone stole a 200-pound voting machine from a Highland High School precinct.

The machine showed up Thursday afternoon discovered by David and Cathy Snead and their friend Sharron Ehrler in a remote field near Kirtland Air Force Base that's popular with illegal dumpers.

The three were scavenging through the trash searching for stuff they could use for their hobby low-budget, locally produced science-fiction films.

"We were looking for chicken wire to build sets. I do low-budget filmwork, and I build my own sets," David Snead said. …
