Teacher discovers crocheting helps students listen and learn

Mrs. Hobel's fourth-graders have gone crochet crazy for a cause.

Inside "Womb No. 12" on the second floor of Carlos Gilbert Elementary School, students on Thursday unfurled nine baby blankets they made over the past two months.

And they just can't seem to stop crocheting, inventing their own stitches along the way.

Already, boys and girls alike are starting on a second batch of 12 blankets they hope to complete by spring for the Babies And Blankets Youth Service project. The blankets will be donated to mothers and their babies, all patients of the low-cost Villa Therese Clinic.

Yellow, pink, green, purple the combinations are endless. …
