Suspects Were Visitors at Jail

Two relatives and a friend of a 21-year-old Taos man awaiting trial on two slaying charges at the San Miguel County Detention Center in Las Vegas were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of trying to smuggle marijuana into the jail.

The San Miguel County Sheriff's Department arrested Manuel Tom Tollardo Sr., 42; Michael Cardenas, 31; and Juana Garcia, 26, around 12:30 p.m. and charged them with conspiracy and attempting to bring contraband into the jail, said jail administrator Gerald Ortiz.

Tollardo Sr. is the father of Manuel Tom Tollardo Jr., who is being held at the jail while awaiting trial in the July 20 shooting deaths of two cousins at an El Prado mobile home park. …
