Area artist trying new technique after full life of painting

Albuquerque artist Reggie Gammon at 79 is still learning, growing and changing. Three of his latest works are included in the "Rhythms and Hues, Expressions in Blue" exhibition opening tonight at the Governor's Gallery in Santa Fe.

Gallery director Terry Bumpass is excited about the gallery's second New Mexico African Artists Guild exhibition at the gallery.

"We've accepted 33 works by 12 artists for the show. I'm hoping that the exhibition attracts the attention of African-American artists and their collectors who may want to donate artworks to the Capitol Arts Foundation permanent collection," Bumpass said on the phone.

He also mentioned that the collection is on permanent display in the Capitol Building and currently has works by African-American artists Fred Wilson of Albuquerque and Ron Adams of Santa Fe.

"Unfortunately our current budget precludes direct purchases, but we offer the advantage of permanent public display. …
