Designed to resemble the old Alvarado Hotel, which was razed in 1970, the Alvarado Transportation Center is expected to open in June. It will house transfers for SunTran buses and serve as the Albuquerque station for Greyhound buses.

The $8.2 million building nearing completion also will house offices for the Albuquerque Transit Department. Some office and retail space also will be leased, said John Parker, a SunTran spokesman.

Negotiations are still under way between the city and Amtrak to bring the railroad into the project. If Amtrak decides to move its station to the center, it would be housed in a separate building from the one now nearing completion. …
