Rio Rancho drafts new regs for home business.

RIO RANCHO Piano teachers, auto mechanics, massage therapists and other home-based businesses would be more regulated under a proposed ordinance endorsed Tuesday by the Rio Rancho Planning and Zoning Commission.

The proposed ordinance, sponsored by Mike Williams, city councilor for District 1, would almost completely rewrite the home occupations ordinance.

The proposed ordinance would ban any home business from creating "noise, dust, vibration, smell, smoke, glare, electrical interference, fire hazard, or any other hazard or nuisance to any greater or more frequent extent than that usually experienced in an average residential occupancy. …
