Poinsettia's Colorful Palette Enliven Holidays.

When thousands of tiny poinsettia cuttings arrived at the Alameda Green House in August, the Christmas season suddenly was right around the corner for grower Steve Skinner.

He and the greenhouse crew had four months to transform the skinny, green shoots into the brightly colored, mature plants that have become a holiday tradition.

No Christmas magic is involved here. Growing poinsettias takes resolute attention to details such as temperature and light, according to Skinner, who has perfected his technique as owner of the Alameda Green House, Fourth and Alameda NW.
