Pintos Sent to 62-57 Home Defeat.(Sports)

The Moriarty High boys basketball team fell behind in a shoddy second quarter and never made it all the way back in a 62-57 loss to visiting Portales on Tuesday night.

Trailing 15-14 entering the second period, the Pintos scored seven points in eight minutes. Portales secured a 30-21 halftime edge and held the lead for good.

Moriarty battled back in the third quarter. Leading scorer Wade Elliott, who missed the entire fourth quarter because of a migraine headache, netted five points in the third as the Pintos trimmed their deficit to 43-41.

Moriarty hit six of 11 free throws in the final period missing its last five attempts. …
