County Panel Approves Arroyo Seco Cell Tower.

Some Residents Opposed Action

Santa Fe County Commissioners voted 2-1 early Wednesday to allow the brothers of fellow Commissioner Javier Gonzales to build a 198-foot cell-phone tower near U.S. 84/285 in Arroyo Seco.

The vote, from which Gonzales recused himself, came last on an agenda containing several controversial issues.

The commission's regular meeting, which began at 5 p.m. Tuesday and ended at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed a special session Monday night at which an ambitious planning ordinance for the Community College District was adopted.

Among items approved Tuesday night were an ordinance governing land use and development in the new Tesuque Community Zoning District; an amendment allowing transfer of water rights from residential to commercial use in Eldorado, and giving Bishops Lodge the go-ahead to rebuild its riding stables, complete with a new tack room, club room, small swimming pool and hot tub. …
