Don't Forget Those in Need.(Opinion)


Six months ago, food banks and other local charities were having a hard time finding warehouse space for the tons of food and other items New Mexicans donated to the victims of the Cerro Grande and other wildfires.

Now, in the traditional season for giving, our charities are running short.

Those involved in helping say the need for food, shelter and other assistance is growing. They are surely right. It doesn't take much of an increase in the cost of heating a home or buying groceries, or much of a stumble in the high-rolling economy, to bring disaster to those on the economic margins of our society. …
