Trustees Share Reverence for Land.

Plucked from a diverse pool, the newly named Baca Ranch trustees stand on at least one piece of common ground a reverence for the 95,000 acres now known as the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

"It is a truly fabulous place," said trustee William deBuys, of Santa Fe. "No matter which way you look at it, from the point of view of its wildlife, its pure landscape beauty, the quality of its open space, you can recite a long list of the ways in which the Baca is a truly superlative place."

Karen Durkovich, another trustee from Santa Fe, echoed another common sentiment that serving on the board, while difficult and certain to stir controversy, is a unique kind of public service. …
