Comcast Eyes Area Cable Franchises.

Cable giant Comcast, which acquired Albuquerque's cable television system in 1998, is negotiating to take over cable franchises over much of northern New Mexico, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Rusty Saltsgaver, general manager of TCI in Santa Fe and franchises in Eldorado, Springer, Raton, Red River and Cimarron, said if all goes as planned, the "transfer of ownership" to Comcast, will take effect on April 1, 2001.

Tina Otteni, a Comcast spokeswoman in Albuquerque, confirmed the proposed and said Comcast also hopes to complete a deal by Jan. 1, 2001, to take over the Adelphia cable systems in Las Vegas, Pecos, Taos, Angel Fire, Questa, Los Alamos, Pojoaque and Tesuque and a small portion of Santa Fe. …
