Sandia National Laboratories is thinking big by thinking small.

With a $400 million complex of new buildings in the works and a handful of major research initiatives under way, Sandia is pushing into the hot new research fields of micromachines and nanotechnology.

From building machines smaller than the head of a pin to assembling substances atom by atom, Sandia hopes to make a major contribution over the next decade to the growing field.
