* Legislative Finance Committee wants to take advantage of surplus to boost salaries

State legislators called for bold action to bring state government salaries up to par and for far-reaching reforms to reward high employee performance at a meeting Monday of the Legislative Finance Committee.

After listening to recommendations from the State Personnel Office, members of the body that guides state budgetary decisions went in separate directions regarding how far-reaching administrative reforms need to be and who should reap financial rewards first low-wage or high-output workers.

With the state officials forecasting a surplus this year of $367 million, state workers stand to benefit. …
