And then there was one.Now that University of New Mexico sophomore guard Ruben Douglas has finally tossed away his white jersey symbolic of back up status for a red one, Senque Carey's in a lonely role.

"They're all taking off on me," Carey says with a smile, referring to Douglas and freshman Zeke Johnson, who earned his way off the white-clad practice squad a week earlier. "But it's all right. Zeke earned his privilege of going up, and Ruben's done doing his time. I loved playing with those people, but now I'll push them to make them better."

Carey, a 6-foot, 4-inch point guard who transferred from Washington is now UNM's only ineligible player. As a redshirt, he can't play until next fall when he begins his junior season.

Douglas, who transferred from the University of Arizona in December of 1999, had to sit out one full year before becoming eligible. He'll be able to play in the Lobos' next game, Dec. …
