General Services To Add Internet Filters.

Online shopping can hurt worker productivity at Christmas time, according to the makers of an Internet filter used by the state's General Services Department.

But so far, the department has passed on buying new filters that limit access to shopping online, preferring to rely on employee discretion.

General Services, which employees about 530 people and provides basic business services to other state agencies, is paying $20,000 to SurfControl Inc. for filtering software and services that limit access to sexually explicit sites on the Internet.
